Review Brother Monochrome Laser All In One In 2023

Compatible with Brother’s TN730 and TN760 (high-yield) toner cartridges, the Brother HL-L2390DW/HL-L2395DW is an all-in-one monochrome laser printer. It supports Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Service and is compatible with Brother’s iPrint&Scan mobile companion application. It has only a flatbed scanner, no automatic feeder, duplex scanning, or fax capabilities. It features automated duplex printing and can accommodate 250 sheets of paper in its input tray.
This review also applies to the Brother HL-L2395DW, which includes Ethernet connectivity, a larger color display, and a quicker printing speed than the Brother HL-L2390DW. You may view the differences in the section titled Differences Between Variants.
1. Design
The construction quality is superb. It is made completely of plastic but feels sturdy, with no visible manufacturing flaws. It has a back panel that provides simple access to paper jams, as well as grooves on each side for maneuverability. The paper tray cassette may expand to fit longer formats and varying widths, while the scanner’s lid hinges can stretch to accommodate thicker objects such as textbooks. However, the power cord is not detachable, making replacement difficult if it becomes damaged.
This printer has a tiny, backlit LCD display with two lines. The panel does not tilt or swivel, making it difficult to view from the sides, above, or below, and it has poor viewing angles. The settings section is relatively straightforward to navigate. The Brother HL-L2395DW model has a bigger, touch-sensitive color display and additional navigation buttons.
This printer is only equipped with a flatbed scanner, making the scanning of lengthy, multi-page documents exceedingly time-consuming. The hinges on the lid expand by approximately an inch, making it easier to close the lid over thicker objects such as textbooks. Check out the Brother MFC-L2710DW if you’re looking for a scanner with a document feeder.
You won’t need to replace the toner cartridge frequently unless you print frequently, and you can get an XL toner cartridge (TN760) that will last even longer. The drum is a distinct component that must be replaced, albeit not as frequently as the toner because it typically yields 12,000 pages.
2. Printing
The overall printing rate is remarkable. It does not require much time to warm up and prints swiftly. While the printer does not support a 4″ x 6″ format, the photo printing time is the time required to print an 8.5″ x 11″ photo. The Brother L2395DW version can print up to 36 pages per minute for black documents. Check out the HP LaserJet Enterprise M507dn if you require a printer with a quicker print speed and larger input trays.
The cost per page is exceptionally low because the toner cartridge is durable and inexpensive. Unfortunately, the drum must be replaced separately, which incurs additional costs. However, the drum lasts significantly longer than the toner cartridge, thus it will not need to be replaced as frequently.
This printer is not intended for photo printing. The print quality is poor, as the image appears grainy and devoid of detail. We tested the photo printing on standard 8.5″ x 11″ paper because glossy media is not supported.
In addition to the primary input tray, there is a front-mounted single-sheet manual feeder with width sliders. The output tray may accommodate up to 100 sheets.
3. Connect
The iPrint&Scan smartphone companion app from Brother is excellent. You may print, scan, and copy documents instantly to your mobile device. In addition, you may undertake maintenance chores such as checking the ink level and installing firmware updates.
Traditionally, laser AIOs are large, cumbersome, and difficult to remove from their packaging, necessitating the use of a rather large, stable surface upon which to position them. Not so with the Brother HL-L2390DW. I had it plugged in, switched on, filled with paper, and ready to connect to our standard Windows 10 Professional PC with an Intel Core i5 processor within minutes. Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct are supported, which is unusual for a laser printer (or most other business-oriented printers, for that matter), but Ethernet is not. In addition, USB flash drives and other memory devices are not supported.
All View
The Brother HL-L2390DW is an excellent printer for monochrome papers. It offers a high page yield, so you won’t need to replace the toner cartridge frequently, and it’s quite inexpensive, which helps keep maintenance costs down. It also offers rapid printing and automatic duplexing. It lacks an automatic document feeder and duplex scanning capabilities, though.
The Brother HL-L2390DW is one of the top available monochrome laser printers. But, its lack of an automatic document feeder and duplex scanning could be a deal-breaker for companies that often scan multiple-page and double-sided documents.
The Brother HL-L2390DW and HL-L2370DW are both monochrome laser printers; however, the HL-L2390DW contains a scanner, whereas the HL-L2370DW does not. The HL-L2390DW produces slightly more copies, resulting in a cheaper cost per copy.
